Poetry: 1 – 4 poems

Short fiction: 1 – 2 stories up to 2000 words each (double-line spaced)

Guidelines

  1. We cannot accept work that is currently under consideration by another magazine or competition.

  2. Submissions by post: Editors would prefer UK submissions by post. Please include a covering letter and an SAE (with the correct postage). If you would like acknowledgement of your submission, send a second SAE or preferably an email address.

  3. Submissions by email. For the moment we are not excepting email submissions, all submissions must be sent by post. Overseas submissions do not need to include postal coupons, please include an email address instead.

  4. Please include your name on each page.

  5. Include a short biography (third person) of no more than 40 words for use if the piece is selected.

  6. We would encourage you to read a recent copy of Brittle Star before submitting work.

  7. All contributors will be notified of the editors' decisions within 8 weeks of the final submission deadline. See news/events for deadline dates.

Please be aware of UK postal rates and envelope sizes, ie. an A4 envelope requires a 'Large letter' stamp not a fisrt class stamp (and correct weight).

Brittle Star is run on a volunteer basis and the office is staffed ad hock basis. The editors are also writers and artists and fully understand the concerns writers might have when submitting work. We will respond to all inquiries as soon as we are able to, but please be aware that the editors also have full-time commitments outside the magazine.
